NACHO! HO! HO!

By

Live streaming from Knockdown Center, visual artists Kenya (Robinson) and Doreen Garner bring their show #trashDay to Clocktower Radio. #trashDay elevates the vernacular of urban fiction, reality television, gossip publications, social dance, and fashion, and uses it as a point of departure for satire and social commentary.

Join us for a celebration of the prodigal return of the #trashDAY duo, with holiday seasonal turn-ups, and nachos. A whole buffet of nachos, salsas, veggies, and cheeses. Plus thought enemas, that #trashDAY Cocktail and Ratchetpiece Theatre. Join us in the “Barry Booth” and get your gravelly voice on, or deliver your 10 dollar gift at guest check-in to register for the Second Annual NACHO-HO-HO Gift Exchange. Fun will be had, minds blown and shit talked. L’chaim up in this bitch and Santa ain’t safe — it’s not our fault nobody celebrates Kwanzaa.

Cassette mixtapes featuring the Best of #trashDAY are available for purchase before and during the event.

ABOUT FANIA:

Fania is the most transcendental label in the history of Latin music.  Home to a roster of iconic music stars, these artists offered a cornucopia of styles that surpassed the boundaries of traditional Latin music and set the path for the genres of Latin big band, Afro-Cuban jazz, boogaloo, salsa and Latin R&B.  By bringing together the eclectic vision of Dominican bandleader Johnny Pacheco with the business savvy of Lawyer Jerry Masucci, Fania created a unique sound: the apex of tropical music, combined with the swing of big band jazz and the gritty vibe of American R&B. The label provided an artistic heaven for a young generation of musicians who were inspired to experiment with new musical formats.   It also gave birth to a musical group, the legendary Fania All Stars that changed the history of Latin Music.  www.fania.com.

Aya Rodriguez-Izumi: Offering

By

“Offering” is the latest one-on-one interactive piece created by Aya Rodriguez-Izumi. In it, the participant is lead through a ritual with the artist where a story from their personal history is transformed into an offering within the performance. It deals with the idea of sacrifice and the concept of being initiated into a created community whether it be a religious group, a counter culture revolution or a secret society. By giving a personal tale from the participant’s life, they are taken on a journey that explores the experience of loss.

Please join us for the second iteration of this performance. RSVP to dnahere@gmail.com. Please arrive at Knockdown Center at 6:30pm to be assigned a time slot. The first 25 RSVP’s will get guaranteed entrance to the performance so sign up early!

Presented as part of the exhibition MAMI, curated by Ali Rosa-Salas and Dyani Douze

Plates of Cake, Honey Radar…

By

For the past few years Honey Radar, from Philadelphia by way of Indiana, has released cassettes, cd-rs, and lathe-cut singles at a breakneck pace, turning heads in underground rock circles. Blank Cartoon – their first LP for What’s Your Rupture? records – was released this past May to high acclaim, with Pitchfork naming it one of the “best underground garage rock albums of 2016.” They will be joined by Brooklyn’s Plates Of Cake whose third album Becoming Double was released earlier this year garnering favorable comparisons to The Soft Boys, The Go-Betweens, and Nick Lowe. Also on the bill is Baltimore’s Other Colors who play “exploratory pop” and have a new record out on Friends Records, as well as NYC-based Bronze Float, whose understated rock has been compared to Arthur Russell, Skip Spence and Sebadoh.
