[Cancelled] Outline: Fall – Helado Negro, Standing on the Corner, Vagabon and more

By
Unfortunately, due to a sudden health emergency Helado Negro can no longer perform and we have decided to cancel the event until we can present the full experience. All tickets have been refunded.
OUTLINE: FALL presents a bold vision of American folk and roots music on multiple stages inside Knockdown Center’s main hall. Spanning Latinx folk, spiritual jazz, virtuosic folk reimaginings, modern Pow Wow music and more, the festival draws exciting connections across genres and practices, presenting a rich tapestry of voices to paint an expansive view of American life.
The festival will continue its tradition of showcasing an “anti-algorthmic” lineup under an ethos of sonic experimentation and genre cross-pollination with the luminous Ecuadorian-American folk-pop artist Helado Negro, a special full ensemble performance by Gio Escobar’s avant-garde jazz-soul collective Standing on the Corner and a set by acclaimed Cameroon-born, NYC-based indie-rock songwriter Vagabon.
Rounding out the program are a trio of rising artists breathing new life into traditional forms: Yasmin Williams, the Virginia-based instrumental guitarist known for her transcendent fingerstyle technique and open ear to surprising influences; Brooklyn’s Maria BC melds murmuring field recordings, beautifully blurred vocals, and subtle electronic flourishes in their ghostly, slow-burn folk; Minneapolis’ Joe Rainey presents his radically idiosyncratic form of Indigeous Pow Wow music, inspired equally by childhood memories of Red Lake Ojibwe celebrations and bracing techno, industrial, hip-hop, dub and noise.

Tove Lo – Dirt Femme Tour with Special Guest Slayyyter

By
Tove Lo embodies every side of her own femininity in her music. She can be powerful in one breath and lusty in the next. Her cleverness will turn into introspection just before she makes herself heard again. She fights hard and loves even harder. Tove has always spoken her mind, and it’s why she’s left an ever-expanding imprint on pop.
The Sweden-born and Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and artist made waves worldwide with her platinum-certified 2014 full-length debut, Queen of the Clouds, uplifted by the quintuple-platinum “Habits (Stay High)” and double-platinum “Talking Body.” Among numerous collaborations, she joined forces with Nick Jonas for the platinum “Close” and Flume on the gold-certified “Say It” in addition to anthems with Alesso, Coldplay, Martin Garrix, Charli XCX, Sean Paul, ALOK,, and Major Lazer, to name a few.
In the midst of sold out shows on multiple continents, she served up Lady Wood[2016] and Blue Lips (Lady Wood Phase II)[2017] before reaching another stratosphere on 2019’s Sunshine Kitty. It landed on year-end lists from the likes of Esquireand Idolator, while Pitchfork proclaimed, “Sunshine Kitty holds some of Tove Lo’s most vulnerable writing; it’s also her clubbiest record.” Meanwhile, she garnered her second GRAMMY®Award nomination with “Glad He’s Gone” in the category of “Best Music Video.” As a songwriter behind-the-scenes, she’s penned music for everyone from Lorde to Zara Larsson in addition to co-writing Ellie Goulding’s quintuple-platinum “Love Me Like You Do”for Fifty Shades of Grey, receiving nominations at the Golden Globe®Awards and the GRAMMY®Awards. Now, Tove realizes a new strength within femininity on a series of singles for her own Pretty Swede Records/mtheory and more to come.

I Hate Models, Newa b2b NDRX, Kyruh

By

** Unfortunately, due to visa issues Shlømo can no longer make it. Newa and NDRX step up, playing a rare b2b in his place.

France’s I Hate Models has become one of the marquee names pushing an industrial flavored neo-rave sound. His music moves with cathartic abandon, jettisoning genre constrictions for pure emotional impact. On his own Disco Inferno label, IHM has carved out a niche of pure artistic integrity, bringing a much-needed freshness to techno. Bassiani residents Newa and NDRX are some of Europe’s most notable talents. Newa’s music boils and undulates with a threatening spaciousness. Her productions for such essential labels as Semantica and Ben Klock’s own Klockworks highlight a subtle and controlled touch. NDRX’s darkly-grooving techno brings a twitchy paranoia and an unmistakable urgency to the fore, while his pacing makes his booking an unmissable event. NY’s KYRUH has made quick work of New York, establishing herself as one of the city’s standouts over the last year-and-change. Her sets are thrilling adrenaline rushes, pushing tempos and sound systems alike. Yet she shows a remarkable discipline as well, maintaining total control of the energy at all times.

Chris Liebing, Julia Govor, Desna

By

CLR Records boss Chris Liebing needs no introduction: the German artist is an essential presence in the modern techno landscape.

His sets balance a heaving, molten sound with masterful restraint, bringing a coiled intensity to huge stages. As a producer, he’s responsible for a string of dancefloor weapons, and as a curator has a keen ear for the next wave of producers.

Kerri Chandler & Ron Trent

By

Kerri Chandler takes over our main hall. The deep house pioneer is one of the genre’s most revered practitioners. His richly expressive productions, enthralling DJ sets and flair for performance remain unparalleled. He returns to Knockdown Center following a masterclass in the Ruins this summer. Chicago’s Ron Trent is a one of Chandler’s most esteemed peers: his darkly soulful sound is grounded in the house music of his hometown, but has just as many fans in techno. He remains an exemplar to this day.
