DJ Harvey, Ash Lauryn, Kristine Barilli

By
DJ Harvey’s timeless swagger and uninhibited approach have brought him to every stage, from giant festivals to grimy warehouse raves to tightly-packed gay bars, and more. Harvey is a visionary whose sound includes, but cannot be limited to cosmic disco, dirty techno, classic house and balearic sounds. More than that, he’s a near mythic presence in the booth, embodying dance music’s most lurid and dyonisian essence. Ash Lauryn has become a figurehead for modern house music, blending a classical sound with modern suaveness. Her Underground and Black platform has become a globally-recognized hub, working with Movement, NTS and more. She’s been an unmissable force in the US and abroad, with a schedule that’s taken her across North America, to Europe, Japan, Australia and more.

Louie Vega, Theo Parrish, Anané

By

Louie Vega returns to Knockdown Center with his Expansions NYC, this time with Theo Parrish and Anané.

Vega is hands down one of dance music’s most important, foundational voices. As a member of the duo Masters at Work, he helped to define the sound of house music. In his solo work, he’s shown a range that extends from essential club tracks to expansive latin jazz. His DJ sets are masterclasses, balancing a lifetime of experience with wide-open ears. Headlining an Expansions NYC gives him free reign; you will not want to miss. Theo Parrish is a true legend of Detroit house. An artist respected for his uncompromising vision, his productions are some of the most unique and affecting in the canon. From classic tracks like “Heal Yourself and Move” to more recent live band excursions, Parrish’s music consistently exudes a mercurial depth and richly-textured beauty. As a DJ, Parrish prizes the exploratory and visceral, the emphatic and the profound. AnanĂ© completes the lineup. The Cape Verde-born artist is the founder of Nulu Music and a multifaceted performer, vocalist, DJ, curator and more. Her storied career has brought her across the globe, from nightclubs to festivals, performances at the Super Bowl and the African National Conference and much more. Her music, whether solo or in collaboration, expresses her roots and personal journey.

Ben Klock, Robert Hood, Lydo

By

Few names have defined techno in the last decade as definitively as Ben Klock. The German DJ and producer was one of Berghain’s first residents, and he played a major role in developing the sound that would come to dominate the genre: lean, precise but with a massive sense of scale, Klock’s music has a grandeur that bangs. That said, Klock is as respected for the diversity of his selections, which he put on full display in his notorious longform sets. As a producer, his tracks have a luminosity that balances the stark severity, while his curation for his own Klockworks label remains fresh. Robert Hood is one of techno’s most esteemed architects. The Detroit artist was a founding member of Underground Resistance before releasing seminal works like “Internal Empire” and the first two volumes of “Nighttime World.” Tracks like “Minus” set the bar for a pared-back, raw and soulful futurism that would become the template for countless artists. Since those early years, he’s had an uninterrupted run, with major artistic developments in the third decade of his career: his Floorplan alias had a major breakthrough with “Paradise,” while 2017’s “Paradygm Shift” for Dekmantel and 2020’s “Mirror Man” for Rekids show that Hood’s music is as vital and captivating as ever. NY’s Lydo is a standout talent. The Basement resident is beloved for the cruising, evocative take on techno that works as well on large stages as it does in subterranean techno clubs.
